What time is it? – Koľko je hodín?
Hour – Hodina
Hours – Hodiny
how many / how much – Koľko
1hour – Hodina
2 – 4 hours – Hodiny
5 – 12 hours – Hodín
One o’clock – Jedna hodina
Two o’clock – Dve hodiny
Nine o’clock – Deväť hodín
A simple way:
Je + the number
It’s 5 – Je päť.
It’s 10 – Je desať.
a.m – ráno
p.m – večer
- If it’s not a full hour:
Quarter – Štvrť
Half – Pol
Three quarters – Trištvrte
Full – Celá
- In Slovak – we refer to the ongoing hour!
1:15 = štvrť na dve (quarter of 2)
- wedont say it is quarter past one, but it is quarter of the hour 2
- This is how we form it:
1: 15 – Štvrť na dve
1: 30 – Pol druhej (we don’t add the word “na” in between)
1:45 – Trištvrte na dve
- Reading off the digits
10.15 – Desať pätnásť
10:30 – Desať tridsať
10: 45 – Desať štyridsaťpäť
5:26 – Päť dvadsaťšesť
3: 50 – Tri päťdesiat
